Chunghwa Telecom to Establish Wholly-Owned Subsidiary in China
July 30, 2010
Taiwanese telecom operator Chunghwa Telecom announced on July 27, 2010 that the company's board of directors has approved a US$6 million investment plan in setting up a new subsidiary in China according to a press release by Chunghwa Telecom. The new unit will be wholly-owned by Chunghwa Telecom, and is scheduled to begin operation in the first quarter of 2011. Due to restrictions imposed on overseas companies investing in the telecom industry by the Chinese government, Chunghwa Telecom aims at offering ICT services at the initial phase, such as energy conservation and 3G value-added services.

Currently, Chunghwa Telecom has two offices in Beijing and Shanghai, and it has established a joint venture Sertec with the municipal government of Xiamen of China through its subsidiary Chunghwa Investment in 2009. Sertec has started operation in early July this year, and the company focuses on providing call center services.
